variable emitters + obstacles

Hey, i wanted to know if it is possible to programatically set the length of an emitter. e.g. for a rifle it should only go till a wall, therefore the distance must be variable but i cant find anything for that in the docs. second is obstacles. i have a large world of box2d bodies. is is feasible to just add all polygons/triangles as obstacles or is there a better way?
